Established in 1958, Coast Gallery was the fi rst gallery in Big Sur and is one of the largest galleries of American Crafts in the United States. It features over 3,000 art and craft works created by 250 prominent local and international artists and artisans, including Loet Vandereen and James Honolt. A historic landmark, the spacious complex houses six galleries and an indoor-outdoor cafe. Nestled in a Redwood Canyon beside a mountain stream 1,000 feet above sea level, the location also offers breathtaking views of the Big Sur surf and headlands.

In the same way that Nepenthe has been the most important meeting place for the Big Sur community, the Phoenix has become Big Sur’s largest store and is one of the best gift shops along the California coast.
