Bike, Hike and Surf Your Way Across the Central Coast
Whether you are a mountain biker extraordinaire or a surfing connoisseur, Big Sur offers the opportunity to explore California’s backcountry in a variety of ways. Bike, ride, surf, or even kiteboard your way across Big Sur during your stay at Ventana.
In addition to Highway One, which is among America’s top road rides, Big Sur offers a number of challenging trails in its forests and parks. Mountain biking is allowed on the following trails:
- Rocky Ridge Trail in Garrapata State Park
- Old Coast Road between Bixby Bridge and Andrew Molera State Park
- Pfeiffer Ridge Trail in Andrew Molera State Park
- Cone Peak Road between Nacimiento Summit and Cone Peak
- Lake San Antonio
California’s most famous course – Pebble Beach Resort – is just an hour away. Ranked as the No. 1 Golf Resort in America by Golf Digest in 2007, the property provides four spectacularly unique coastal courses. Pebble Beach is one of dozens of courses throughout the Big Sur region.
Ventana’s reception desk is happy to help with tennis court recommendations and reservation assistance. Just contact us for additional information.
Traverse meadows, Redwood groves, streams and hidden beaches on a guided horseback tour across the rugged Central Coast landscape. Molera Stables offers tours through Andrew Molera State Park.
Set off from launch sites such as Carmel Bay, Molera Beach or Whalers Cove in Point Lobos, or book one of a variety of guided tours through Monterey Bay Kayaks.
The waters off of California’s Central Coast feature lush kelp forests, a wide variety of marine animals, and vibrant underwater colors. Reservations are recommended at popular dive spots such as Whalers Cove and Bluefish Cove.
The rough breaks and cold water off of Big Sur’s coastline make for less-than-hospitable surf conditions, but seasoned surfers will enjoy the breaks near Ghost Tree, Willow Creek and Molera Beach.
Windsurfing & Kiteboarding
The San Simeon Coast, specifically the Arroyo Laguna area, is one of California’s top windsurfing and kiteboarding destinations. The area features stunning ocean views and spectacularly rugged scenery.
